Sarangkot Sunrise Tour takes us to one of the most popular tourist destinations and viewpoints in Pokhara. The Sarangkot hilltop, sitting at an elevation of 1,740 meters, offers magnificent views of the mountains such as Machapuchhre, Dhaulagiri, and Annapurna. Moreover, the location is also a perfect spot for getting a bird’s eye view of the Pokhara valley as well as the glorious Phewa Lake.
Sarangkot is most famous for the marvelous sunset and sunrise views that can be seen from the hilltop. The place is also near a settlement which means that that trip allows us to get close to the countryside of Nepal while being not far from Pokhara. Notably, we need to drive early in the morning to the top of the hill for a glorious sunrise view. While it can be foggy during the monsoon season, on most days, the viewpoint welcomes us with remarkable views of the mountains and the valley below.
The Sarangkot Sunrise Tour is a short yet rewarding trip that can be finished by midday if we start early. If one does not prefer hiking, one can simply drive to and from the location. That said, for a truly remarkable experience, getting there in a vehicle for the sunrise and hiking on the way back would be the best choice. Sarangkot Sunrise Tour is one of the shortest hiking trips around Pokhara, which can be completed by the afternoon.
Itinerary
Our journey will start early in the morning at around 4:30 am. We begin by taking a scenic drive from Lakeside towards the northern part of the city. From the junction at Bindabasini Temple, we will take a left and start ascending. The path is quite calming as the asphalt road goes through dense forests, settlements, and farmlands. After about 30 minutes of driving, we will arrive near the top of the Sarangkot hill. A few uphill steps will bring us to the viewpoint, which welcomes us with glorious views of the mountains, the valley, and the shining light from the sunrise.
After spending an hour at the top, we will commence with our hiking. We head westward, enjoying the calming environment and get familiar with the local community. After about 3 hours of hiking, we will arrive at Naudada, a quiet village inhabited chiefly by agricultural farmers. We will take a rest for a while and then continue our hiking. An hour of walking will bring us to Phedi, where we will get on a private vehicle that will take us back to Pokhara.
