Pokhara Peace Pagoda hike is a short trip to the Peace Stupa situated on a hill nearby Pokhara. The pagoda, also known as World Peace Pagoda, is at an elevation of merely 1100 meters but offers great views of the Himalayas, the Pokhara valley, and Phewa Lake. It is simply a 2-hour hike to the stupa, whereby the trail goes through dense forests and farmlands.
The temple, which is also called Pokhara Shanti Stupa, was built by a Japanese Buddhist monk in 1973 as a symbol of Peace. It is one of the two peace pagodas in Nepal, the other one being in Lumbini, which can be seen in the Lumbini Tour. Despite being a Stupa built by Buddhist monks, the temple serves as a place of peace for people of various faiths. Tourists and locals come here to relax in the serene environment while sitting at the top of Ananda Hill. Moreover, the place is also a vantage point offering excellent views of Machapuchhre, Annapurna Range, and Dhaulagiri.
Itinerary
We can reach the Peace Pagoda through multiple routes. However, the most popular one has to be through Phewa Lake. We will first get on a boat in Lakeside and go across the lake to the bottom of the hill. From there, we begin our hiking on the stone steps that go towards the top of the hill. After about an hour of hike, we will arrive at the Stupa. We can also enjoy the views of the mountains and the valley from the ridge. Moreover, we can also have lunch in a nearby restaurant while taking pleasure in the fresh air and the vistas. After that, we will hike down to the other side for an hour and reach Chorepatan. We will have a private vehicle pick us from there whereby it will take us back to our hotel.
