Marsyangdi Rafting is one of the most adventurous rafting trips in Nepal. Marsyangdi river, also known as the raging river, comes from the slopes of Annapurna Massif and yields exciting rapids. While the water currents require a more technical approach, they ultimately create an unforgettable experience of rafting.
The river originates at the confluence of Jharsang Khola and Khangsar Khola at Manang. From there, it travels a total distance of 150 kilometers before joining Trishuli at Mugling. Moreover, the well-known Annapurna Circuit route passes along the bank of Marshyangdi. So, there is plenty to explore and witness while rafting in the Marsyangdi River.
Due to the considerable length of the river, Marsyangdi rafting is a 2-day trip where you travel about 52 kilometers of distance. You will be camping on the riverside at night, which in itself is quite enjoyable. The crew will consist of professional kayakers and rafting experts who will also take care of all your food and accommodation needs.
The best time for Marshyangdi rafting is between the months of January to May and September to December. In the months of June, July, and August, the rapids are very high, and rafting expeditions are not organized due to safety reasons.
Itinerary
We will start the Marshyangdi Rafting trip at 6:30 a.m., whereby we get on the private bus and head towards the location. The scenic drive to the east of Pokhara lasts for about 3.5 hours before arriving at BhulBhule, which is the starting point of the rafting.
After reaching the shore, professional guides will brief us about the safety precautions and techniques. We will wear our life jackets and helmets before going into the water with a raft and paddles. The rafting will last for several hours as we pass the Marsyangdi Hydropower Dam as well as green landscapes. Upon arriving at Paundi, we will get to the shore and camp there. Our night will be spent in a riverside tent.
The next day, we will have our breakfast at the camp and head back to the water. Our water journey will last a few hours as we wrestle with the waves amidst beautiful scenery. At a place called Turture, we come out of the river and have our lunch. We will then get on a private bus and drive back to Pokhara, which takes about 2 hours.
